‘Warcraft’ Bows at #1 in 19 Overseas Markets

Warcraft got off to a hot start overseas, claiming the #1 spot in 19 markets on its first day of release. The film took a $16.3 million opening day haul and is expected to finish the weekend above $30 million from a total of 20 territories.

Warcraft posted the biggest opening day of the year in Germany with a $2.2 million Thursday. The film is up to $3.5 million and 45% market share in Germany entering Saturday.

Russia opened at #1 on Thursday with $2.8M, the second biggest opening day of the year behind Deadpool and the seventh-biggest opening day of all-time. The film’s two-day total is up to $4.9 million with a 65% market share.

Other top performers coming in at this early stage include France with a $2.2 million three-day haul, a $539k Friday bow in Sweden and #1 opening day results in Austria, Denmark, Egypt, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Latvia, Lebanon, Middle East, Norway, Pakistan, Slovenia, Switzerland, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

Warcraft will open in 45 additional territories over the next two months. Next weekend, the film opens in Belgium, Brazil, Italy, Netherlands, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain and the U.K. and Ireland.
