may10.pngOur Long Range Forecast has been updated this weekend to include May 10's new releases, The Great Gatsby and Tyler Perry Presents Peeples.

The Great Gatsby (2013)

PROS:

- The original film, based on a modern classic piece of literature, was a modest hit back in 1974.
- The ensemble led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire adds some needed star stature to the remake.
- Director Baz Luhrmann has a fair share of fans out there.
- The film will aim to counter-program by targeting adults who aren't interested in May's summer blockbuster fare.

CONS:

- Luhrmann hasn't had a hit in 12 years. Even then, Moulin Rouge was only a modest box office performer.
- DiCaprio, while an unquestionable star, isn't always a guaranteed box office draw (see J. Edgar).
- While not the typical summer fare, Gatsby could easily fail to entice adult audiences should its word of mouth not hit the sweet spot.
- The delay from an original holiday 2012 release may have been to avoid competing with that season's busy schedule, but various production hiccups for Gatsby suggest there could be a lack of confidence in the film.

Tyler Perry Presents Peeples

PROS:

- The Tyler Perry brand name.
- Audiences looking for a comedy not named The Hangover Part III in May.
- The history of wedding-themed comedies performing well in early summer.

CONS:

- Could easily get lost in the shuffle for non-Perry fans with the amount of competition in May.
- Perry's non-Madea films typically aren't strong performers.

Notable changes on our forecast this weekend include The Croods, Olympus Has Fallen, Admission, and Evil Dead. Also, jOBS has been removed from our forecast due to the recently announced delay of its release.
