BRAZIL: 'Turbo' Off to a Slow Start as the Minions Continue to Dominate
on July 25, 2013
Despicable Me 2 closed its third weekend in Brazil on the verge of reaching the $25 million mark. The animated sequel was the top film in the territory with a $3.3 million weekend, only a 17% fall from its previous frame. Despicable Me 2 finished above Superman's second weekend in Brazil. Man of Steel dropped 37% to earn a $2.5 million tally that raises its Brazilian cume to $11.3 million.
Domestic new release Concursio Publico opened ahead of Fox's Turbo despite playing in nearly half the locations of the animated movie. A $1.5 million debut reflects the Brazilian public's loyalty to domestic films that strike a chord with audiences. Turbo couldn't drum up any serious interest in Brazil despite having the second highest screen count in the country. Turbo grossed $1.4 million in its opening weekend and falls to the bottom half of the table when measuring the market's per-screen average.
