Brazilian director Jose Padilha's RoboCop reboot will be released in IMAX screens worldwide beginning on February 7th. The film will look to attract viewers among the 767 IMAX theaters across 54 countries. The official press release for the announcement is included below:
LOS ANGELES - Sept. 19, 2013 - IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX), along with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, today announced that the upcoming film RoboCop will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released into IMAX® theatres worldwide beginning Feb. 7.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees its chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
RoboCop is directed by José Padilha and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The screenplay is by Joshua Zetumer, based on the 1987 motion picture written by Edward Neumeier & Michael Miner. The film is produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Bill Carraro and Roger Birnbaum serving as executive producers.

The Conjuring won a close head-to-head battle with Planes to finish in first place at the Brazilian box office. it was a packed weekend in Brazil, with four big name titles opening simultaneously. The Conjuring led the pack with a $1.7 million bow, edging out Planes which finished the weekend with a $1.58 million take.
F1 is a popular sport in Brazil, a country with its fair share of idols in the sport. Ron Howard's Rush opened in the country a week ahead of its U.S. limited release, earning $414k from 211 screens. 2 Guns had a $414k debut at 219 screens, falling to the bottom half of the table.
The per-screen averages give us a better picture about the weekend's grosses. The Conjuring's $4,362 average is a good distance away from the competition. The Internship presented a strong hold, falling 36% in its third weekend to post a $2,753 average from 197 screens. Both Rush and 2 Guns were released by local distributors and each occupied about a third of the screens devoted to Planes. Finishing the weekend with a per-screen average below the $2k mark, however, is a sign that these films will have difficulty posting a strong run in the coming weeks.

The Conjuring led a packed weekend in Brazil with a $1.8 million debut. The first place bow ranked above the premieres of similar tiltles like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Mama, and all of the entries in the Saw and Paranormal Activity franchises. Planes premiered in a close second place with an estimated $1.8 million bow that could overtake The Conjuring's numbers once the weekend actuals come in.

White House Down took down the three consecutive weeks atop the Brazilian box office for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. The Roland Emmerich action film opened to $1.5 million across 365 screens. It's a marked improvement over the $1.06 million debut of Olympus Has Fallen earlier this year. Olympus Has Fallen went on to gross $3 million in Brazil. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters settled for a $899k second place performance. The Percy Jackson sequel has grossed $9.9 million, already surpassing the $8.6 million performance of the original.
Two disappointing bows in limited release marked a grim outlook for Jobs and One Direction: This is Us. The biopic struggled in 209 screens with a middling $2,600 per-screen average. The One Direction concert film posted a $2,491 per-screen average to finish its debut with $532k, about half of what Justin Bieber: Never Say Never grossed in its 2011 opening. Justin Bieber's own documentary went on to gross $3 million in Brazil, suggesting a result in the $2 million range for One Direction.
