The sequel was only 37% down from its previous box office outing in Brazil with a $2.6 million haul from 716 screens. The strong hold puts the Apes sequel in the $20 million dollar club with a market total of $20.5 million. 68 percent of the box office for the film in Brazil has come from 3D screenings.
Guardians of the Galaxy posted a $5.4 million debut from Brazil, where the film posted its fourth biggest haul from its initial 42 overseas territories. The Brazilian debut was only behind Russia ($13M), the UK ($10.8M), and Mexico ($6.5M) among the film’s top grossing foreign markets in its first frame worldwide. Guardians finished its first weekend at the box office with a $160.4 million global cume following a stellar $94 million bow from North America.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes posted a strong hold in its second weekend in Brazil, dropping only 39% from its opening weekend for a $4.1 million haul. The Apes film played in 800 screens over the weekend and has grossed a total of $16.4 million to date in Brazil.
Transformers: Age of Extinction took in $1.7 million from 470 locations in its third weekend in Brazil, a 49% slide from its first hold-over frame in the market. The film has grossed a total of $25.3 million to date in Brazil.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes conquered Brazil in its debut weekend with a $9.3 million opening frame. The film played in 873 screens in the country and outperformed the $3.5 million opening weekend of its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, by nearly 300 percent.
