CHINA: Box Office Hits $10 Billion Yuan In Record Time on May 23, 2014

Chinese mainland box office sales have topped 10.02 billion yuan (about 1.61 billion U.S. dollars) so far this year, with domestic productions taking about 56 percent of the market share, said the country's film watchdog on Friday.

In 2013, the Chinese market took six months to hit 10 billion and this year it happened in a little less than five.

China's The Monkey King remains #1 this year with 1.04 billion yuan, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier is #2 with 718 million yuan. 


'The Amazing Spider-Man2' Leads the Chinese Box Office for Second Consecutive Week on May 20, 2014

image.jpgThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 continues to dominate the Chinese box office. The Spidey sequel added $24.48 million its second full week of release to reach a total of $80.86 million in the world's second biggest box office market. The superhero film withstood a strong weekend challenge from local film Coming Home, which grossed $12.98 in its three day debut. Rio 2 fell to the #8 spot with a $450k weekly haul, inching one step closer to the $40 million mark in China with a $39.4 million cume.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Climbs to $78.5M in China on May 18, 2014

tasm2.pngThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 added $13.5 million to its Chinese haul in its thrid weekend on the market. The film kept the #1 spot over the weekend ahead of the Chinese film Coming Home. The Spider-Man sequel has grossed a total of $78.5 million in China.
