'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Takes $41.1M Week; 'Rio 2' Posts $12.96M Opening Weekend on April 15, 2014

ca2.pngCaptain America: The Winter Solider hit the $80 million mark after completing its first full week at the Chinese box office. The superhero sequel took a whopping $41.44 million throughout the week.

Rio 2 took a strong $12.96 million opening weekend to finish in second place.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman continues to do well in China. The film should clear the $20 million mark by the end of the current week.

The Legend of Hercules took a mid-table $2.37 million debut.

Need for Speed is finally slowing down its strong run. The film has grossed a total of $66.24 million in China, its top global market including North America.

Chinese film Black Coal, Thin Ice bridged the art house and commercial gap in its home country. The film won the top honor at this year's Berlin Film Festival and has grossed a total of $16.46 million in China.

'Rio 2' Soars in China with $12.1M Debut on April 13, 2014












Rio 2 took a strong $12.1 million opening weekend from 5,850 screens in China. The impressive debut marked a 150% improvement over the opening weekend of the first film in the animated franchise.

capamerica.jpgCaptain America: The Winter Soldier hit the $80 million mark in China over the weekend. China is the biggest overseas market for the superhero sequel, representing more than 3 times the $25 million cume of South Korea, the film's second biggest overseas market.

The Captain America sequel is now the #3 Disney release of all time in China. The film has been especially popular in IMAX, where it has already grossed a total of $3.7 million from 307 Chinese IMAX screens.
