It has grossed a total of $32.7 million after 17 days in the market. The Penguins expanded to several markets over the weekend, including North America, with the film grossing $100 million globally.
Interstellar kept the #1 spot in China over the weekend. The sci-fi flick claimed 40% of the market share among the top 5 films after grossing $30.6 million from 7,004 screens. The weekend results represent a drop of 26% as compared to the film's opening weekend. Interstellar has grossed a total of $82.3 million in China, making it the second highest grossing film for WB after 12 of release.
The Penguins of Madagascar continues to earn in China as the animated film finished its second weekend in the market with an $8.7 million haul. The second weekend performance was only a 20% drop from its debut. The animated flick finished the weekend in #3 behind Interstellar and local hit Rise of the Legend. The Penguins of Madagascar has grossed $23 million in China ahead of its expansion across 40 territories next weekend.
Tuesday Update: EntGroup reports that Interstellar snagged an impressive $42.7 million over its first five days of release in China, which was more than enough to put it in first place last week.
Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2, a homegrown flick, finished in second with $19.7 million over 5 days.

Sunday Update: WB reports that, according to early estimates, Interstellar has earned a staggering $42 million from five days of release in China. That's enough to give the film a dominant 55% market share.

On Thursday, Interstellar grossed an impressive $5 million from 7,742 screens, by far the #1 film in the market with an estimated 63% of the Top 5 market share. The two-day cume is an impressive $10.4 million. These results are 144% ahead of Inception, 4% ahead of The Dark Knight Rises and 10% ahead of Gravity.
Penguins of Madagascar opened this weekend in China a couple of weeks ahead of its North American release. The film did solid business, earning $11.3 million from 3,500 locations to finish the weekend in second place behind Interstellar.
Final figures for Interstellar will be coming in the coming hours. The Christopher Nolan sci-fi epic has already grossed $10.4 million in China as of November 14.
