Lee Daniels' The Butler again claimed first place on Wednesday, bringing in $1.76 million for the day. That's down just 27 percent from the same day last week as the drama continues to benefit from strong word of mouth. To date, the film has totaled $57.55 million and should continue to enjoy strong holds in the coming weeks--especially over the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

Warner Bros.' We're the Millers also continues to enjoy healthy legs with a Wednesday-to-Wednesday drop of 32 percent for $1.32 million yesterday. Having bagged $95.69 million to this point, the comedy is rolling on its way to surpassing $100 million domestically sometime this weekend.

Disney reports a $0.81 million Wednesday take for Planes, down 34 percent from the same day last week. The kid-driven spin-off has turned out to be a solid performer after cracking the $60 million threshold on Tuesday. The animated film's total now stands at $62.33 million. Expect this one to post a strong hold over the holiday weekend as well.

Sony's Elysium moved up to fourth place with $0.75 million. That figure represents a 41 percent decline from the same day last week. Although it remains behind the pace of 2009's District 9, the film has posted solid holds since opening weekend. Elysium's total gross is now $71.38 million.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones rounded out the top five as it fell two spots on Wednesday. The pic added $0.71 million on yesterday, off 76 percent from its opening day last week. The adaptation has failed to gain traction with young audiences in its first week, something that will only be exacerbated with the release of the teen girl-friendly One Direction: This Is Us on Friday. Mortal Instruments has grossed $16.78 million so far.

Meanwhile, Focus' Closed Circuit failed to generate awareness with its almost non-existent marketing campaign. The result was a poor $248,704 opening day.
