'Gravity' Cracks $70 Million on Wednesday

Warner Bros.' Gravity grabbed $5.34 million yesterday to increase its domestic total to $73.8 million after just six days. Benefiting from strong word of mouth and continuing buzz throughout the media, the film is performing significantly ahead of expectations as it heads toward its sophomore frame. BoxOffice forecasts a relatively easy repeat in first place based on its daily trends so far.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 added $0.815 million to its haul on Wednesday, down just 24.5 percent from the same day last week. After a somewhat modest opening weekend, the animated flick is showing early holding power as the only offering for kids and families currently in the marketplace. Cloudy 2 has totaled $62.855 million thus far.

Fox's Runner Runner took in $0.624 million yesterday, representing a 25 percent decline from Tuesday--the largest day-to-day drop in yesterday's 12. The pic's cume stands at $9.8 million after six days, about 36.5 percent behind the pace of In Time.

Prisoners came in fourth place on Wednesday with a gross of $0.468 million. That marks a 45.7 percent drop from Wednesday of lastweek. The well-reviewed drama has banked $49.5 million thus far.
