Doctor Strange stormed the overseas box office this weekend, bringing in $86 million from 33 territories. When taking account the territories and current exchange rates, the Doctor’s debut is around 49% ahead of Ant-Man, 37% ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy, and 23% ahead of Captain America: Winter Solider, and marginally ahead (1%) of Thor: The Dark World according to Disney. The film opened in first place in all but two of this weekend’s territories.
IMAX screens contributed $7.8 million from 213 locations across 32 countries. This makes it IMAX’s biggest October opener of all time internationally, more than doubling the previous $3.2 million record set by Gravity. It is the biggest IMAX bow of all time in South Korea. It will expand to an additional 787 IMAX locations next weekend, including North America and China —the world’s top two markets— which will make it the first IMAX title to ever play in over 1000 screens and the widest IMAX release of all time.

- Taiwan ($4.3M)
Apart from China and North America, the Marvel title will expand to Russia, Brazil, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Lebanon, Slovakia, Slovenia, Norway, South Africa, Turkey, India, Ecuador, Trinidad, Panama, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela next weekend. Japan is scheduled to open on January 27, 2017.
