Fandango: ‘Doctor Strange’ Leading ‘Ant-Man’ Pre-Sales; ‘Trolls’ Ahead of ‘Home’

Their official press release:

LOS ANGELES – NOVEMBER 3, 2016 – Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” is casting a spell on Fandango ticket buyers this week, with the film scoring a dazzling 93 points on Fandango’s movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation and leading all weekend sales.

“Doctor Strange” is overpowering Marvel’s first “Thor” movie and “Ant-Man” at the same point in the sales cycle on Fandango. At the same time, DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls” is outselling DWA’s “Home” in advance ticket sales on Fandango.

“There’s a reason why ‘Doctor Strange’ is overpowering ‘Thor’ and ‘Ant-Man’ in advance sales for their debut movies,” says  Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “Audiences are always looking for fresh fare, and ‘Strange’ is something we’ve never seen before on the big screen — with a ground-breaking twist on the superhero genre, mind-bending visual effects and inventive action sequences that demand to be seen in 3D, and a stellar ensemble cast of Oscar notables like Benedict Cumberbatch, who couldn’t be hotter on social media.”

Fandango asked more than 1,000 “Doctor Strange” moviegoers why they’re planning to see the movie. Among the factors:

  • 97% are Marvel fans.
  • 85% are interested in a darker take on the superhero genre.
  • 82% are fans of the film’s star, Benedict Cumberbatch.

About Fanticipation

Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango’s movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango’s advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment. Fandango is the ultimate digital network for all things movies, reaching more than 60 million unique visitors per month across its portfolio of digital properties, according to comScore.
