Nation’s No. 1 Online Ticketer Rolls Out New Scanner-Free Mobile Ticket at Five Theater Chains, Serving More Than 3,500 U.S. Screens

LAS VEGAS/CINEMACON (April 11, 2016) – On the heels of a record-breaking 2015 where Fandango grew its ticketing business 81 percent, the company reports continued growth in the first quarter of 2016, with a 63 percent increase in ticket sales, year-over-year.

Building on its momentum, Fandango has expanded its ecommerce network to now include ticketing on its newly-acquired digital moviegoing destinations, Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes, adding 20 million monthly users, for a combined total of 63 million* and more than 100 million app downloads.  The acquisition of Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes, from Warner Bros Entertainment, closed on April 1.

“Fandango is experiencing tremendous ticketing momentum with a healthy increase in sales, expansion onto Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes, and the introduction of new mobile technology to enhance moviegoers’ experiences at their favorite theaters,” said Paul Yanover, Fandango President.

With 70 percent of Fandango and Flixster customers using their mobile devices to discover movies and purchases tickets, the company has increased its development efforts to create new mobile innovations that make it even easier and more enjoyable to go to the movies. Fandango is rolling out new mobile ticket technology, allowing consumers to simply show theater staffers an unduplicatable ticket image on their mobile phones, thereby eliminating the need for QR codes and barcode scanners.

Fandango’s new mobile ticket is being introduced at five theater chains, serving more than 3,500 screens at Carmike Cinemas, Frank Theatres, Paragon Theaters, Reading Cinemas and the legendary TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood.

In addition to the acquisition of Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes, Fandango acquired premium ondemand video service, M-GO, which it rebranded in March as FandangoNOW.  With this new capability, Fandango plans to create innovative new solutions for “super tickets” and movie ticket and home entertainment products, adding even more value to theatrical ticket purchases.  “Super tickets” could provide moviegoers the opportunity to attend special screenings, pre-order digital downloads of movies in theaters, or catch up at home with previous franchise installments before going to the cinema to see the newest release.
