Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them took in $6.9 million from 5,070 screens across 9 overseas markets on Wednesday, ranking first in each of those territories.
France led early openers with a $1.8 million start with 209k admissions on 805 screens (including previews), and taking 70% of the Top 5 marketshare. South Korea similarly dominated the Top 5 marketshare with 65% as it grossed a total of $1.7 million from around 1,900 screens –surpassing the box office numbers of all previous Harry Potter films in the market. Other top performers include Indonesia, where the film took in $480k from 690 screens and Sweden with $446k from 300 screens.
The film opens in 38 additional markets today, including Germany, Italy, Russia, Brazil, and Australia. It will expand to 16 more markets on Friday, including the United Kingdom, Spain, and Mexico. China and Japan are scheduled for release next weekend.
