The Amazing Spider-Man 2 claimed the biggest opening weekend of all time for a Hollywood title in India with a $6.5 million debut. The previous record holder was its franchise predecessor, The Amazing Spider-Man, which took a $5.6 million bow from India. The Indian premiere of the new Spider-Man film was more than twice the openings of The Avengers and Spider-Man 3, and more than three times the opening gross of Captain America 2 and Thor 2. The Spidey sequel is looking to top the previous installment’s $758 million global total. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has grossed a total of $377 million worldwide after three weeks of release, including this weekend’s $92 million opening from North America.
2 States held on to the top spot among domestic releases in India with a $3.9 million hold in its second week. The film has now grossed a total of $13.76 million in its home market and has also reached a $1.8 million cume in North America.
Revolver Rani struggled in its debut at 1,518 theaters, finishing the week in second place with a $1.5 million bow.
Kaanchi similarly struggled out of the gate, unable to reach the $1 million mark in its opening frame despite playing in 1,250 theaters. Kaanchi grossed $626k in its debut.
Samrat & Co. took in a $210k debut from 642 theaters.
2 States is entering its third weekend at the North American box office with $1.8 million already in the bank.
The film grossed $535k at 137 locations over its second week of release in North America.
2 States took in $434,587 in its second weekend at the North American box office, taking its market total up to $1,742,449.
