'Ghanchakkar' Declines in Box Office on July 10, 2013

Although the movie Ghanchakkar started off with a big bang, it is already declining in the box office Movie Press Review reports. During its opening weekend, the movie managed to make roughly 7 crores (approx. 1.5 million dollars) per night. This week it has barely been making 2 crores (approx. 428 thousand dollars) per night, as word of mouth has dissuaded many movie-goers from seeing the film. The film was supposed to be a comedy, but critics say that halfway through the movie, it seems as if "Director Rajkumar Gupta [...] got confused" and turned the film into a thriller instead. 

 

 

'Barfi' Wins Big at IIFA on July 08, 2013

Barfi, a romantic comedy about a deaf and mute man and his relationship with two women, won multiple awards at this years International Indian Film Awards, the Indian equivalent of the Oscars. 'Singam 2' Exceeding Expectations on July 06, 2013

Singam 2 is beating expectations after its day-and-date global release on July 5th, performing strongly at the Indian box office, OneIndia Entertainment reports. There was a massive amount of advanced booking for this film, and many theaters even had to buy back tickets because they had sold too many. Trade analysts originally anticipated that the film would make over $4.2 million (20 crores) worldwide during its opening weekend. 

'Raanjhanaa' banned in Pakistan on July 05, 2013

Raanjhanaa was originally set to be released in Pakistan sometime in June. However, The News reports that Pakistan's Film Censor Board banned the movie because the love story of a Hindu-Muslim couple could potentially offend the Islamic conservatives. It is a relativity common occurrence for the Film Censor Board to ban movies. Some popular titles that were recently banned include  Zero Dark Thirty and India's Tere bin Laden.

INDIA: 'Ghanchakkar' Opens with $5M Worldwide on July 05, 2013

ghanchakkar-.jpgGhanchakkar was the top film in the Indian box office this week, grossing $4.6 million in its opening run across 1511 screens. The comedy had a day-and-date roll-out in other markets around the world, posting a $775k total outside of India. North America was responsible for $143,616 of that figure, with the United Arab Emirates bringing in $339,782 and the United Kingdom contributing $133,349. 

Raanjhanaa posted $2.7 million in its second week of release in India. The film has grossed a total of $8.1 million in its home country and earned $756l in the same timeframe in North America. Fukrey reached a $5.4 million total in India and has grossed $124,221 in North America. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deehani continued its blockbuster run in India, reaching a $30.7 million cume. The Bollywood hit has grossed an additional $3.7 million in its North American run.
