Mariyaan Expected to be a Big Hit In India on July 04, 2013

After the huge success of Raanjhanaa, Bollywood is eagerly awaiting the release of Mariyaan, which is set to make its first appearance in theaters on July 19. Both movies star the same man, Dhanush, who is not only a famous actor but it also a singer and producer as well. Danush plays a fisherman in Mariyaan, and Parvathi Menon plays his love interest in this story that "revolves around human survival", the Times of India reports. 

Ghanchakkar: Big Success in UAE Box Office on July 04, 2013

Ghanchakkar was released this past weekend worldwide and has done surprisingly well in the United Arab Emirates box office, grossing just under $500,000 USD (2.24 crores). OneEntertainment India reports that it hasn't been doing as well as anticipated in other countries such as the UK and Australia, where Jatt and Juliet 2 was much more successful.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a Bollywood biographical sports film about Indian athlete Milkha Singh, was released internationally this weekend in an effort to reach a wider audience The Times of India reports. 

Two Remakes of Amitabh Bachchan Hits are Headed to the Big Screen on June 29, 2013

Remakes and reboots have proved to be popular in Hollywood, and now it looks like the same attitude is arriving in India. If this year's versions of Chashme Baddor and Himmatwala weren't enough, the Times of India is reporting that two remakes of Amitabh Bachchan hits are in the works. Producer Jayantilal Gada is said to be attached to the projects, remakes of Bachchan's Andha Kanoon and Aakhree Raasta. Gada's current project still has links to the Big B; the producer is in charge of the 3D re-release of the 1975 classic Sholay. Bachchan's latest big-screen appearance to hit international screens is in a featured supporting role in Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby.

INDIA: 'Raanjhanaa' Takes the Top Spot as 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' Drops to Third on June 28, 2013

Raanjhanaa was the hot new domestic film at the Indian box office this week, taking the top spot after grossing $5.4 million from 1,354 theaters. The drama directed by Anand L. Rai opened in North America last weekend and rounded out the week with a $562,661 take.

Fukrey came in second place with a $1.7 million tally in its second weekend in India. The Indian cume for the comedy film currently stands at $4.7 million. Fukrey has grossed a total of $122,783 in North America during the same timeframe.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani slipped to third place in India this week. The film has been a blockbuster success in its own country, currently posting a $30.8 million total. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has also been a hit abroad, grossing $3.6 million from North America.

INDIA: 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' Breaks $35M Global on June 22, 2013

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to rule the Indian box office after a third consecutive week as the number film in the country. The Bolylwood film is on the verge of hitting a $30 million cume in its home country and has already amassed a $3.5 million total in North America. That brings the worldwide cume of the latest Bollywood blockbuster to $35.1 million.

Fukrey opened across 883 screens to second place after a $2.9 million weekly gross. The film went on to add $104k from 57 locations in North America.
