Disney’s The Jungle Book took in $3.74 million on Thursday to lead the daily box office for a 14th straight day. The blockbuster 3D live-action computer animated hybrid was up 1 percent over Wednesday and down just 33 percent from last Thursday. The Jungle Book was the week’s top film with a weekly take of $78.98 million. That represented a 40 percent decline from the film’s opening week performance and brings the film’s two-week total to $209.66 million. The Jungle Book continues to outpace its already lofty expectations in a big way and is widely expected to easily remain in first place this weekend.
Overseas, The Jungle Book took in an estimated $7.5 million on Thursday. That brings the film’s overseas total to $378.5 million and the film’s global cume to a massive $588.2 million. Key overseas totals for the film to date include $109.8 million in China, $35.0 million in the United Kingdom, $31.9 million in India, $18.1 million in Russia, $17.3 million in Mexico, $17.2 million in Australia and $17.0 million in France.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War held steady in a distant second place with $1.05 million. Universal’s follow-up to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman was down 3 percent from Wednesday’s performance. The Huntsman: Winter’s War placed in second for the week with a seven-day start of $24.60 million. The film is performing below its already scaled back expectations and is expected to fall off quickly going forward.
Barbershop: The Next Cut grossed $0.573 million to remain in third. The Ice Cube led comedy sequel from Warner Bros., New Line and MGM was down 6 percent from Wednesday and down 45 percent from last Thursday. Barbershop: The Next Cut took third place for the week with $13.38 million. The film was down 47 percent from its opening week performance and has grossed a solid $38.58 million in two weeks.
