Local Distributor Paris Filmes Tops 2012 Brazilian Box Office

When Brazil's 2012 receipts were tallied, local Brazilian film distributor Paris Filmes landed on top with the biggest piece of the year by selling 18.7 percent of all ticket sales -- the first time in 20 years that a Brazilian company has wound up on top. Paris Filmes, a partner of RioFilme and DownTown, released only one local film that hit the Top Ten, the comedy Até que a Sorte Nos Separe, which sold 3.3 million tickets domestically, but was also responsible for six other Hollywood productions that ranked among the year's biggest, including The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II. Said Paris Filmes General Director Marcio Fraccaroli, "We aren't ashamed of our decision to make commercial movies." Claiming the second spot was Paramount/Universal, who racked up 14.9 percent of all Brazilian ticket sales.
