Can 'Oz' Beat 'Alice' at the Brazilian Box Office?
on March 09, 2013
Disney's Alice in Wonderland was a solid hit in Brazil, opening to $6 million and going on to rake in a total of $28.3 million -- a sizable sum in a country where $20 million is often enough to crack the year's top ten. The big test for Disney is if Oz: The Great and Powerful can do it again. Or better, if it can break Alice's record. After all, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters should end its run in Brazilian theaters with nearly the same haul, which given that it lacked the Mouse's mighty advertising budget says a lot about the country's growing appetite for theatrical fare. Midnight shows already prove that Oz should handily own the weekend -- but can it break Hansel's current hold as the top film of 2013 to-date?
