UPDATED: $26 Million Two-Day Domestic Start for 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation'
on March 30, 2013
Saturday Update: G.I. Joe: Retaliation took in another $15.51 million on Friday, bringing its two-day domestic total to $26 million. Boxoffice.com is currently projecting $38 million for the 3-day weekend and $48.5 million for the sequel's 4-day opening.
Friday Update: Paramount reports today that G.I. Joe: Retaliation grossed a total of $10.5 million in its domestic opening Thursday. With an estimated $8.3 million of that figure coming from Thursday proper (sans midnight and Wednesday night shows), it remains to be seen whether or not fan front-loading is a factor.
The film received an "A-" CinemaScore.
Thursday: Paramount reports that G.I. Joe: Retaliation made $2.2 million from Wednesday afternoon/midnight shows. That's a relatively weak start for the action flick. It's possible that the success of Olympus Has Fallen will hinder the sequel's debut frame. Both films deal with an attack on the White House.
Boxoffice.com is currently predicting a $37.5 million debut frame for Retaliation.
