MonstersUStill.jpgMonsters University was the top film of the weekend in France, raking in $4.1 million from 686 screens in its French premiere. The animated film faced stiff competition from a pair of holdover titles; World War Z and Despicable Me 2 each grossed $3 million to take their French cumes to $13.9 and $24.2 million respectively.

The rest of the titles in the top ten chart all grossed under the million dollar mark. Man of Steel reached a $19.2 million total in its fourth week and will be looking at crossing the $20 million milestone as early as next week.

Two limited release titles have been making a solid run at the box office. Redemption, the latest Jason Statham action vehicle, averaged $4,524 from 139 screens. Noah Baumbach's Frances Ha, a micro-budget gem, scored a $2,938 average in its second weekend at 84 theaters to round out the top ten.
