JAPAN: 'Monsters University' Breaks $20M

MonstersUStill3.jpegMonsters University posted another monster weekend in Japan, dropping a mere 15% to gross $7 million in its second frame. The Pixar prequel has now taken in a total of $20.1 million from the market.

Pocket Monster Best Wishes 2013, the latest installment in Japan's popular Pokemon franchise, came in second place with a $4.9 million opening weekend. The Japanese thriller Midsummer Formula continued its hot streak in its third weekend by grossing $3.1 million and taking its total to $18.3 million.

Fast & Furious 6 broke the $10 million mark with a $2.8 million weekend in its sophomore frame, a 36% drop from its debut. The Great Gatsby and After Earth round out the top ten by reaching a $10.1 and $8.3 million totals, respectively.
