The original Smurfs movie grossed $15.7 million in 2011. Rush settled for third place in its third weekend, adding $1.2 million to reach a $7.1 million total. The Bling Ring slipped 42% in its first hold-over weekend, collecting $1.1 million from 356 screens to reach a $3.4 million total. The Bling Ring is director Sofia Coppola's second-highest grossing film in Italy and should surpass the $3.8 million earned by Lost in Translation over the coming weeks.

A trio of debuts couldn't make their way past the mid-table mark. Domestic film Anni Felici fared best in the group with a $835k take from 249 screens. The Lady Di biopic, Diana, continues to struggle in its European expansion, placing sixth in Italy with an $808k debut from 354 screens. The Frozen Ground opened in 204 theaters to $803k.
