"SPIDER-MAN" HOLDS STRONG WITH ROBUST SECOND WEEKEND TICKET SALES
LOS ANGELES - May 8, 2014 - According to Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, the raunchy R-rated comedy "Neighbors" is ranking at the top of the company's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator, scoring 85 out of 100 points, and "out-grossing" the previous Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg production, "This is the End" by a factor of 2 to 1 in advance ticket sales. "Neighbors" is currently Fandango's biggest R-rated comedy pre-seller since summer 2012's surprise hit, "Ted."
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is also holding strong in its second weekend, scoring 83 out of 100 points, while the faith-based comedy, "Moms' Night Out," is surprising box office observers with an inspirational 71 points, and ranking as Fandango's third biggest ticket-seller for the weekend.
"Audiences will go to ‘Neighbors' with a high awareness of Seth Rogen and Zac Efron," says Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger, "but Rose Byrne, already a recognizable face from ‘Bridesmaids,' may emerge as the movie's biggest breakout. She's the film's emotional heart and boasts some of the movie's best sight gags and one-liners. Even though much of the film takes place at a frat house, it's also a sweet and thoughtful story about a young couple trying to make life work with a new baby, so ‘Neighbors' also plays as a great date movie."
On Fandango's weekly movie recommendation show, "Weekend Ticket," Karger breaks down the new releases and catches up with "Neighbors" star Efron. Efron tells Karger. "After one of the worst, [most outrageous] scenes in the movie, my dad tapped me on the shoulder and he said, ‘that was a good scene!' and I just said, ‘uh, thanks, Dad!'" About Fandango's Fanticipation
Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango's movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango's advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment.
