AUSTIN, TX -- Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, announced today at SXSW® Conference & Festivals the debut of a new movie buzz indicator called "Fanticipation," a first-of-its-kind tool to measure moviegoer excitement and help predict the films that will connect with fans at the weekend box office. Released weekly, "Fanticipation" ranks fan excitement around upcoming and current movies based on Fandango's proprietary data collected from its online and mobile traffic, the social media engagement of its fans, and its advance ticket sales. In addition to being shared on the site, "Fanticipation" will also be featured in Fandango's new original digital video series, "Weekend Ticket," premiering on March 14, 2013.
"Weekend Ticket" host Dave Karger - Fandango's Chief Correspondent and one of the country's most highly-regarded movie experts - will film the series' inaugural episode at SXSW, where he will interview fan favorites including Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Paul Walker, Josh Duhamel and Paul Rudd, along with mainstream moviegoers. Whether it's finding the ultimate date movie or a film the whole family will enjoy, Karger will help consumers find the perfect movie on "Weekend Ticket." Unlike other movie preview shows, "Weekend Ticket" will also directly connect moviegoers to Fandango's advance ticketing for that film at one of its 20,000 screens nationwide.

In the same spirit of "Weekend Ticket," Dave Karger will moderate an official SXSW kickoff panel, "An Insider's Preview to the SXSW Film Festival," on March 8 at the Convention Center Room 16AB, to help SXSW attendees make their moviegoing decisions at the festival. Fandango will also host the "Fandango Film Lounge" March 8 through March 12 at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel, where festival-goers can relax with free food and drink, log onto WiFi and charge their phones -- all while checking out the latest movie trailers, Karger's live in-lounge interviews with celebrities, and Fandango's original videos, including a sneak preview of "Weekend Ticket."
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Armie Hammer will receive the "CinemaCon® Male Star of Tomorrow Award" at this year's CinemaCon, it was announced today by the convention's Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the largest and most important convention for the motion picture theatre industry, will be held from April 15-18, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at which time more than 5,000 industry members will be gathering. Hammer will be presented with this special honor at the "CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards" ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 18, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

Hammer will star this summer in the highly anticipated action-adventure film "The Lone Ranger," to be released by Disney on July 3, 2013. Hammer stars as the title character opposite Johnny Depp's Native American warrior Tonto. Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into The Lone Ranger, a legend of justice - taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption. A Good Day To Die Hard grossed another $18.3 million from 8,199 screens in 67 markets for an overseas total of $162.3 million. The global total is now $221.9 million.
With no new openings, the box office was driven by the excellent results from holdover markets lead by France with $3.5m and a cume of $10.6m. This was followed by Germany with $1.9m and a $12.8m cume; Brazil with $1.8m and the #1 position; and Japan with $1.6m and a $17.2m cume. Five markets remain to open, including Australia and China later this month.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters added another $15.2 million overseas, pushing its total to $127.2 million. The global total is now $181.3 million. Key stats from Paramount:
Germany led the way where the film made a spectacular $5.4M from 408 locations for a blazing #1 opening, which was 700% above Red Riding Hood, 78% above Underworld Awakening, 25% above Snow White and the Huntsman and 328% above Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
Spain also opened at #1 with an excellent $2.4M at 487 theaters. This opening was slightly better than Underworld Awakening and more than doubles the openings of Red Riding Hood and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
The UK also took a strong $2.4M from 404 locations, good for #2 (behind Wreck It Ralph), and better than Underworld Awakening, Red Riding Hood and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
Also of note was the opening in Austria, where Hansel grossed an amazing $800k for a clear-cut #1 opening, almost 50% above Snow White and the Huntsman, more than double Underworld Awakening and at more than triple the level of Red Riding Hood and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
The film played in a total of 54 territories in over 3500 cinemas and holdovers only dropped by 30%. France opens next week.
Jack the Giant Slayer took in $13.7 million from 1,824 screens in 10 Asian markets. The global cume is now $41.7 million. The film ranked a strong #1 in 7 out of 9 territories (the exceptions being Korea and India where we were by far the #1 US film in release).

Les Mis grossed another $10.5 million from 8,100 locations in 51 territories, pushing its cume to $264.1 million. The global total is now $411.7 million.
Les Mis opened in China on Thursday and placed No. 3 with an estimated weekend gross of $3.9M at 5,000 dates. It is a good result and well ahead of other Oscar® films such as THE KING'S SPEECH and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Turkey opened with a record-breaking $172k at 52 dates making LES MIS the biggest musical opening weekend ever in that territory. We will have Serbia & Montenegro's opening report on Monday. Holdovers are strong, including Germany at No. 6 with $1.3M at 440 dates for an 11-day total of $3.5M. The U.K. and Ireland had another great weekend, holding at No. 6 in week eight with $935k (£575k) at 386 dates for a 52-day total of $61.8M (£39M). In Japan, LES MIS held strong at No. 4 in its 11th week, grossing $980k at 356 dates for a 72-day total of $59.2M. Mexico held strong at No. 3 in its 3rd weekend with $630k at 330 dates for a 17-day total of $4M.
Flight took in another $5.2 million for a total of $60.4 million. The global total is $154.2 million. Japan took the top spot at the local box office, grossing $2.5M from 321 cinemas. This #1 opening was more than quadruple the opening of Argo, almost triple the local opening of State of Play and more than double the opening of Safe House.
Mama added another $4.1 million from 1,400 locations in 19 territories. The overseas haul is $33.9 million. Globally, the horror flick is up to $104.7 million.
Lincoln tacked on another $3.8 million, pushing its overseas total to $73.8 million. The global total is $253.9 million.
Life of Pi added another $2.8 million, pushing its overseas total to $477 million. The global total is now $593.9 million.
