GERMANY: 'Iron Man 3' Beats 'Scary Movie 5' for #1 on May 07, 2013

iron-man-3.jpgIron Man 3 opened strong in Germany with an $8.9 million debut weekend. The superhero film was well above second place Scary Movie 5, which grossed $1.2 million over the weekend for a cume of $4.7 million in Germany. Oblivion tumbled 54% to fifth place in its fourth week, averaging just north of a thousand dollars per screen. Oblivion has grossed $7.6 million in Germany and the $10 million benchmark is looking less likely as the weeks pass.

FRANCE: 'Iron Man 3' $7.8M Leads a Robust Weekend on May 07, 2013

Iron Man 3 led the way with a $7.8 million gross after falling 48% from its premiere weekend. Les Profs continued its domestic success with a $4.2 million gross in its third weekend in release. Les Profs has a $20.7 million cumulative gross in France.

AUSTRALIA: 'Iron Man 3' Continues Strong, 'Big Wedding' Opens Big on May 07, 2013

53429296680800441582126.jpgA good box office weekend saw high per-screen averages for all the films in the top ten in Australia. Iron Man 3 added $6.4 million to reach a $28 million total in Australia, retaining the top spot by a wide margin.

The Big Wedding was a pleasant surprise despite its high-profile failure to reach U.S. audiences. The Australian premiere brought in a $1.2 million total, a strong second place showing. It doubled the weekend gross of Olympus Has Fallen, in third place with $614,599. The Place Beyond the Pines was the other successful weekend premiere. Derek Cianfrance's multi-generational drama grossed a strong $3,236 average in only 63 screens, the lowest screen count in this week's chart.

ITALY: 'Iron Man 3,' 'Hansel and Gretel' Boost Box Office on May 07, 2013

53429296680800441582126.jpgFive new releases meant a more dynamic weekend at the Italian box office. Iron Man 3 easily retained the top spot for the second consecutive week with $2.7 million. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters had a stronger debut than expected, grossing $1 million despite playing in less than half the theaters than Iron Man 3. Side Effects had a moderately successful opening considering the other options during its release date, grossing $715,782. Snitch was the only clear disappointment of the weekend, opening in sixth place with a mediocre $1,617 per-screen average in 206 theaters.
