COLUMBUS, Ga.-- Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading digital cinema and 3D motion picture exhibitor, announced the promotion of Gary Green to the position of Director of Alternate Content. Mr. Green has been with Carmike since 1986, most recently as its Southern Division Manager. Prior to joining Carmike, he was previously employed by Stewart and Everett Theatres.

"We are delighted to appoint Gary as the Company's new Director of Alternate Content. He brings a wealth of technological expertise to this position and possesses a superior knowledge of the exhibition industry and the growing field of alternate content," stated Carmike Cinemas Chief Operating Officer Fred Van Noy. Carmike was very pleased with the enthusiastic response to two live in 3D sporting events at select theatres in early 2009. The Fedex BCS National Championship college football game and NBA All-Star Saturday Night, were both shown in 30+ locations. Several upcoming special events are in the pipeline, including a live, digital broadcast of ‘Handel's Messiah' at 2:20 p.m. EDT from The Chapel of King's College Cambridge (England), featuring a performance by the famous King's College Choir. ‘The Messiah' will be shown at 40 Carmike theatres on Palm Sunday, April 5th.

Also coming up in May and June is Screenvision's presentation of seven episodes of ‘Stand Up 360,' hosted by comedian/actress Caroline Rhea ("The Biggest Loser" and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch") and Erik Rivera ("SiTV/MTV3"). Each episode will include a lineup of 100+ minutes of stand-up routines featuring six leading comedians. Some airings of ‘Stand Up 360' will be on weeknights, typically slower times at the box office, and others will be on weekend evenings, including some late-night showings.
