Total tweets for February 12th Openers
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief continued its assault with another impressive tally of 3,732. With close to 7,000 tweets through Tuesday 15,000 will be no problem here for the film. By comparison, Where The Wild Things Are had 4,363 after its Tuesday before release. Things are definitely continuing to look very rosy here and high single digit millions for Friday appear to be in store.
Valentine's Day surged on Tuesday with 3,442 tweets, up a massive 54% from Monday's 2,234 tweets. In terms of comparisons, Dear John had 3,178 tweets on its Tuesday before release which was right in line with the jump here. Still on course for low double digits on Friday, but I'll bump my early estimates slightly to $12.5 million after this strong showing on Tuesday.
Not to be left out, The Wolfman came in with another strong showing of 1,346 tweets on Tuesday. In terms of comparisons, Law Abiding Citizen had 697 tweets its Tuesday before release, and Sherlock Holmes had 1,701. Nothing so far to make me go back on my initial thoughts of high single digits for Friday. This is going to be one explosive weekend at the Box Office.

Twitter tracking history. (For 2009's ratio history please check here.)
The ratio is the number of tweets per $1 million of Friday Box Office gross. A film with 1,000 tweets and a $10 million Friday would therefore have a ratio of 100. In general, films that appeal to very young or older audiences have lower ratios since those audiences are not big users of Twitter. By comparison, films that appeal to younger audiences (18-35) have much higher ratios since those audiences are much more active users of Twitter.
