Total tweets for February 26th Openers

Cop Out came in with 707 tweets on Tuesday, up from its 497 on Monday. This is in line with my tracking estimate of 3,000+ for the full week so no big surprises here. Continuing with my comparisons from yesterday, Surrogates had 450 tweets its Tuesday before release, Men Who Stare At Goats had 691, and From Paris With Love had 530. It's tracking ahead of Surrogates and Goats by a ways but I do believe the Kevin Smith factor will help to push the ratio higher than the standard 600-700 sweet spot. Wednesday will be a great indication as usual as to its potential.

The Crazies had a modest increase on Tuesday as it increased to 974 tweets, up from 836 on Monday. In comparison, Saw VI which had 1,518 tweets in its Tuesday before release, The Fourth Kind which had 752, Daybreakers had 1,152, and Legion which had 671. This was lower than I had expected and it will likely only hit 5,000 to 5,500 by end of day Thursday at this pace now which will definitely lower its Friday potential. Stay tuned.

Twitter tracking history. (For 2009's ratio history please check here.)

The ratio is the number of tweets per $1 million of Friday Box Office gross. A film with 1,000 tweets and a $10 million Friday would therefore have a ratio of 100. In general, films that appeal to very young or older audiences have lower ratios since those audiences are not big users of Twitter. By comparison, films that appeal to younger audiences (18-35) have much higher ratios since those audiences are much more active users of Twitter.
