LOS ANGELES and SAN FRANCISCO - Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, and Common Sense Media, the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving the media and technology experience for kids and families, have formed an editorial partnership to help parents make great - and age-appropriate - movie choices for their families. Beginning today, millions of Fandango users can find Common Sense Media movie reviews for thousands of new releases and DVDs at Fandango.
Parents can find Common Sense reviews in both the movies and DVDs sections on the Critics Reviews page for each film. The Common Sense ON, IFFY, or OFF button - along with a traditional 5-star review - will be featured at the top of each Critics Reviews page. By clicking "Information for Parents," users will be taken to the full Common Sense review at the bottom of the page, featuring the Decider Slider®, What Parents Need to Know, and a breakdown of the movie's content, from violence and sex to role models and messages.
Based on childhood development criteria, Common Sense Media's ratings system helps parents make decisions about which movies, video games, TV shows, websites, books, and music are right for their families. The Common Sense ratings information complements traditional ratings services with more detailed, easy-to-understand information.
"As parents, we need to be selective about our kids' entertainment choices, and Common Sense Media provides Fandango with easy-to-read consumer reviews especially tailored for parents," said Jessica Yi, vice president of product development for Fandango. "At Fandango, we're constantly looking at ways to enhance the user experience. Common Sense Media helps us add authoritative, trustworthy, family-friendly information that complements our own user reviews and ratings, trailers, and showtimes and ticketing information - so that everything you need to make your movie-going decision is all in one place."
"Today's parents have such a great need for information about what their kids are watching or playing, and they need it right at their fingertips," Anne Zehren, president and COO of Common Sense Media. "Our Common Sense reviews are designed to empower parents with the tools and information they need to help kids get the best -- and avoid the worst -- of media and entertainment. Now that our detailed reviews are available at Fandango -- the go-to site for millions of busy parents looking to relax with their kids in front of a movie at the end of a long week -- it's even easier for parents to make smart choices, and pick movies that truly reflect their own, personal values."
