'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Nets $132M Ahead of North American Release

tasm2.pngA $67.2 million weekend gave The Amazing Spider-Man 2 the overseas weekend crown and brought its global up to $132 million a weekend before its bow in China and North America.

IMAX screenings netted $4 million from 146 screens around the world, with new openings contributing a $35,000 per-screen average. South Korea is responsible for driving up that average after reporting a PSA of $60k over the weekend. Spidey 2 has grossed $7 million to date from IMAX screenings worldwide. The IMAX screen count for the film will cross the 700 mark next weekend, a first for the company.

South Korea was the top opener for the Spidey sequel, catching the #1 spot with a $13.4 million debut. Russia took an $8.9 million bow for first place, 3% ahead of its predecessor’s opening in the market. Italy posted a #1 debut with $6.5 million, 20% ahead of the last entry in the franchise. Japan opened to #3 in the marked with $5.2 million. Taiwan brought in $4.1 million in its opening weekend.

The UK led hold-overs with $5.7 million to bring its market total up to $27.8 million. Mexico retained the #1 spot with a $4.3 million take in its second frame to reach a $19.5 million cume. Australia brought in $3.1 million to brings its total up to $10.7 million. The sequel grossed $2.7 million in its second weekend in Germany to reach a $10.8 million cume.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 expands to 30 new markets next weekend, including Brazil, China, France, India, and North America.
