harknessscreens.pngZIEGFELD THEATRE, NEW YORK, MAY 19TH 2014 - Harkness Screens, the world's leading screen technology company and thought-leaders in on-screen brightness, supplied its brand new, RealD approved, Clarus XC screen surface for the New York City premiere of Sony Pictures Entertainment's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" held at the Ziegfeld Theatre (operated by Bow Tie Cinemas) on April 24.

Specially selected for the premiere by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the 52 x 22.5ft Clarus XC 220 3D screen was installed to run with NEC projection and RealD 3D.

"We've been working closely with major film studios and key customers on the development of Clarus XC technology for some time," explains Keith Watanabe, Americas Sales Director at Harkness Screens. "The two key objectives we set were to dramatically improve the quality of 3D presentation for cinema goers at an affordable cost to exhibitors and with Clarus XC we've achieved both of those. We're delighted that Sony Pictures share that desire to improve 3D presentation and recognise the improvement Clarus XC technology is able to make."

Designed to work with all passive 3D systems, Clarus XC screens create visibly deeper 3D content which draws in the audience creating a more captivating viewing experience.  A whiter look under projection mean that colours look visibly richer and more accurate both in 2D and 3D resulting in a more defined, sharper and crisper picture.

Lori Furie, Senior Vice President of Production for Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, "I've watched the movie dozens of times and seeing it projected on this screen with that added sharpness, clarity and depth, in this theatre, really made for a great, immersive experience."

The new, fourth generation d-smooth coating technology at the heart of Clarus XC has specific properties more commonly seen in white screens.  This technology enables Clarus XC screens to benefit from significantly improved light distribution compared to traditional 3D silver screens.  Through this, visible hot-spotting is reduced and uniformity is greatly increased, making compliance with 2D industry standards more easily achievable.
