LOS ANGELES - July 10, 2014 - According to Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has scored 93 out of 100 points on the company's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator and is currently outselling its predecessor, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" on Fandango at the same point in the sales cycle. "Dawn" is pacing similarly to last summer's apocalyptic epic, "World War Z" and currently represents more than 70% of Fandango's weekend ticket sales.
According to a survey of more than 1,000 "Apes" ticket-buyers on Fandango:
87% viewed at least one of the original series of five "Apes" films (1968-1973);
82% have seen 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes;"
81% are fans of the film's top-billed star, Andy Serkis;
73% claim Serkis deserves an Oscar for his motion capture performances.
"Andy Serkis delivers a towering performance," says Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger. "Not only does ‘Dawn' feature his spectacular achievement and some of the most jaw-dropping special effects ever put on screen, but it also is the rare summer blockbuster that truly makes you think and feel. It could end up as the best-reviewed big-studio film of the season."
About Fandango's Fanticipation
Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango's movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango's advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment.
