Minions took in $9.48 million on Thursday to lead the daily box office for a seventh consecutive day. The blockbuster 3D computer animated spin-off from Universal and Illumination Entertainment was down a sharp 18 percent from Wednesday. Wide releases in general experienced sizable daily percentage declines yesterday due in part to the new competition from the Thursday evening launches of Disney's Ant-Man and Universal's Trainwreck. Minions took in a very strong $166.49 million during its first week of release. That is on the high end of the film's lofty pre-release expectations and was just ahead of the $165.66 million seven-day start of 2013's Despicable Me 2 (which opened on a Wednesday).

Fellow 3D computer animated release Inside Out held steady in second with $2.23 million. The blockbuster film from Disney and Pixar declined 14 percent form Wednesday and 47 percent from last Thursday. Inside Out placed in a distant second for the week with $28.17 million. That represented a 44 percent decline from the previous week and brings the film's four-week total to a stronger than expected $294.70 million. Inside Out is now just $5.30 million away from reaching the $300 million domestic milestone and is set to surpass that mark over the weekend.

Universal's Jurassic World grossed $1.94 million to remain in third place. The 3D sci-fi adventure blockbuster sequel was down 12 percent from Wednesday and down a solid 40 percent from last Thursday. Jurassic World took third place for the week with $27.24 million. The film was down 40 percent from the previous frame and is now on the verge of surpassing the $600 million domestic mark with a massive five-week take of $599.77 million.

Warner's Magic Mike XXL was up one spot from Wednesday to place in fourth on Thursday with $1.27 million. The Channing Tatum led sequel fell 14 percent from Wednesday and 50 percent from last Thursday. Magic Mike XXL landed in fifth place for the week with $15.42 million. The film was down just 35 percent from the previous week, but in the bigger picture is still performing below expectations with a 16-day take of $54.14 million.

Paramount's Terminator Genisys was down one spot to round our Thursday's top five with $1.17 million. The Arnold Schwarzenegger led 3D sci-fi action sequel was down a very sharp 22.5 percent from Wednesday, as it took an especially hard hit from the Thursday evening launch of Ant-Man. Terminator Genisys was fourth for the week with $20.22 million. The film fell 49 from the previous frame and has grossed a softer than expected $75.24 million in 16 days.

Warner's The Gallows and Focus' Self/Less rounded out their first respective first weeks of release with daily grosses of $0.821 million and $0.483 million. The Gallows placed in sixth for the week with a modest seven-day start of $14.00 million, while Self/Less managed just $8.06 million in its first seven days. Both films should fade away from theatres very quickly.

jul10wknd.pngUniversal reports that Minions tacked on another $11.505 million on Wednesday, giving the blockbuster prequel a six-day domestic total of $157.01 million. That puts the animated flick 2 percent ahead of where Despicable Me 2 stood at the same point in release two summers ago.

In second place, Inside Out was off 49 percent from last Wednesday to $2.58 million yesterday. Pixar's latest smash hit has tallied $292.5 million domestically through 27 days of play -- putting it 25 percent ahead of the pace of Up, whose final $293 million domestic gross will be surpassed by Inside Out on Thursday.

Jurassic World was off 41 percent from last week to $2.2 million on Wednesday. That gives the mega blockbuster a domestic take of $597.8 million, 7 percent more than Marvel's The Avengers earned through the same point in release.

Terminator Genisys slid 45 percent from last Wednesday to $1.51 million yesterday. Its 15-day domestic take is an underwhelming $74.1 million.

Filling out the top five, Magic Mike XXL took in $1.48 million yesterday, off 46 percent from last Wednesday. Its 15-day haul stands at $52.9 million.

Meanwhile, The Gallows took in $0.954 million on Wednesday for a six-day total of $13.18 million, while Self/Less earned $0.89 million for a six-day cume of $6.94 million.

Movies have been entertaining, enlightening, inspiring, and setting audiences' imaginations free for well over a century now. And while there are now more than 450 online services around the world offering consumers access to legitimate movies and TV shows, the cinema-going experience continues to remain the bedrock of the film industry. This year's box office is already setting records, and with plenty of highly anticipated releases still looming on the horizon, 2015 is shaping up to be an all-time best.

Warner Bros.' American Sniper, Universal's Focus Features' Fifty Shades of Grey, and Universal's Furious 7 have already taken this year's box office by storm. Others like Disney's Cinderella and Paramount's SpongeBob Squarepants brought families into theaters around the world. And Disney's The Avengers: Age of Ultron hit the $1 billion mark not long after its release. And we still have long-awaited films like Disney's Ant-Man, Universal's Minions, Fox's Fantastic Four, Paramount's Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, and Sony's Pixels waiting to make their way into cinemas. Followed, of course, by Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December.

But as much as we enjoy watching these great adventures unfold, it is important to remember the countless people whose hard work, time, dedication, and energy went into creating them. That includes everyone from the caterers, costume designers, hair and makeup artists, carpenters, lighting designers, and truck drivers working on set to the folks in local cinemas working the ticket and concessions counters and creating a memorable and unique theater-going experience. All told, more than 1.9 million Americans go to work every day in a job that depends, either directly or indirectly, on the motion picture industry. Yet, far too many of these people and their contributions get overlooked. At the Motion Picture Association of America we have worked to change that by shining a light on these remarkable, hardworking members of the motion picture industry through a series of short films we like to call I Make Movies. Available online and in participating theaters, these vignettes each highlight one of the many men and women working behind the scenes to bring these incredible movies to life.

These short videos are part of our larger effort to make the case that it matters where people watch movies-particularly to the folks who make up the overwhelming majority of this industry but who will never walk a red carpet or appear on the cover of a magazine. That is also why we at the MPAA also created WhereToWatch.com-our one-stop shop, guiding your audiences to content quickly, simply, and-most importantly-legally, whether in their local theater or on one of the vast array of streaming services available today. These efforts are an important recognition of the need of the motion picture industry to continue evolving in the digital age to meet the demands of our consumers while seeking to protect 1.9 million industry workers against those who would seek to steal and profit from their labor. Creators and exhibitors of film have enjoyed a long-standing partnership in the fight against piracy, and these recent efforts are just some of the ways we are continuing to work together to protect movies and the people who create them.

Boca Raton, FL July 16, 2015 - MovieTickets.com, the leading global provider of remote movie ticketing, announced that it has entered into a multi-year deal with the Cinema Buying Group (CBG), an independent theater consortium administered by the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), to offer its services across CBG's network of theatres. In doing so, MovieTickets.com will be the exclusive ticketing company to offer the CBG members a platform through which patrons can browse movie show times and purchase tickets in advance. The Cinema Buying Group represents over 7,000 screens in the United States and Canada. A significant number of their independent theaters do not currently have online or mobile advance ticket solutions in place. Through the agreement, these exhibitors have made a key technological commitment to extend the MovieTickets.com service to their customers looking to take advantage of the convenience of buying tickets to movies in advance.
