Lionsgate reports that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 added $2.33 million on Wednesday, bringing the film's total domestic gross to $233.8 million through 13 days of release. That puts the penultimate series chapter 24 percent off the pace of last year's Catching Fire. On its current trajectory, Mockingjay - Part 1 will end up grossing between $310 million and $320 million by the end of its domestic run.
Horrible Bosses 2 took in $1.08 million in second place yesterday. WB's comedy sequel has pulled $26.4 million since bowing on Wednesday of last week, placing it 45 percent behind its predecessor's gross at the same point.
Christopher Nolan's Interstellar added $0.85 million in third place on Wednesday, giving the space epic an overall domestic haul of $149.8 million to-date.
Fox reports that Penguins of Madagascar grossed $0.65 million in fourth place yesterday. The Madagascar spin-off has earned $37.84 million through its first eight days. That puts the toon 9 percent ahead of the pace of Rise of the Guardians, 15 percent behind The Muppets, and 25 percent behind Puss in Boots.
Rounding out the top five, Disney's Big Hero 6 posted $0.47 million yesterday. Its domestic tally now stands at $168.9 million--12 percent ahead of the pace of Wreck-It Ralph. The film is poised to ultimately end its run north of $200 million domestically.
Meanwhile, The Theory of Everything took in $0.34 million from 802 locations, giving it a solid $430 per-theater average. Its domestic take thus far is $10.62 million.
On the platform front, The Imitation Game pulled a strong $31,567 from 4 locations yesterday. That represents a per-screen average of $7,892. The film's six-day total stands at $579,249.
