Fox's Gone Girl took in $2.27 million on Thursday to continue to lead the daily box office. The critically acclaimed David Fincher directed film starring Ben Affleck has now led the daily box office for six straight days and for twelve of the past fourteen days. Gone Girl was down a slim 3 percent from Wednesday and down a healthy 31 percent from last Thursday. The film claimed first place for the week with a weekly take of $37.79 million. That was down just 27 percent from the film's opening week performance and brings the film's two-week total to a very impressive $30.85 million.

Universal's Dracula Untold held steady in second place with $1.299 million. The action horror film starring Luke Evans decreased 8 percent from Wednesday's performance. Dracula Untold surpassed the $30 million mark on Thursday and exceeded expectations this week with a seven-day start of $30.85 million. That placed the film in second for the frame and was 5 percent below the $32.63 million seven-day debut of 2012's Underworld Awakening.

Warner's The Judge rounded out its first week of release with a third place take of $1.134 million. The Robert Downey Jr. led drama was down 7 percent from Wednesday. The Judge took fifth place for the week with a seven-day launch of $18.90 million. While that was on the low end of expectations, the film has displayed encouraging early holding power thus far and is running 51 percent ahead of the $12.51 million seven-day take of 2009's The Soloist.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day was up one spot and a strong 21 percent over Wednesday to claim fourth on Thursday with $0.952 million. The family film from Disney starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner took third place this week with a seven-day start of $24.83 million. Alexander continues to perform in line with expectations and is running 4 percent behind the $25.78 million seven-day take of 2010's Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Warner's Annabelle was down one spot from Wednesday to round out Thursday's top five with $0.906 million. The low-budget spin-off to The Conjuring increased 1 percent over Wednesday and fell 52 percent from last Thursday. Annabelle placed in fourth for the week with $20.41 million. That was down 55 percent from the film's opening week performance and brings the film's two-week total to a strong $66.20 million.

Friday Morning Update: For the second time in the last three weeks The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 topped the charts for upcoming films. It dropped a new preview a couple days ago which spawned a hefty 55,665 tweets. Hardly a surprise since its first full trailer grabber over 160k tweets back in September. This could very well see record breaking tweet totals leading up to release so expect this to be leading quite often over the next month before release.

Ouiji is a social media giant in its own right and last week was no different as it held down the second spot. Its Facebook tally has also been huge and at this point its money in the bank for its backers given the signs. It is the most tweeted about Horror on the year this distance from release (yes even ahead of Annabelle which had ~65k tweets the same week before release).

Beyond The Lights also turned heads on the week with a third place finish. The romance genre traditional is Twitter money and big numbers don't always translate to big bucks (see Endless Love) but with a limited marketing push and tiny budget this has done very well at generating interest so far. It looks to be a sleeper in the wings for November at this point.

Penguins Of Madagascar had been very silent for the most part over the past few months, with its first two trailers having less than 3,000 tweets each which was a bit on the light side, even for a family friendly film. Perhaps sensing the light buzz, Fox released the first four and a half minutes of the film online a couple of days ago which saw just shy of 10,000 tweets. Great move on their part which seemed to have worked at sparking interest.

With this donation, inpatients will have their very own, special movie theater to view movies in.

The grand opening of the movie theater will take place on October 16 at 1:00 pm at CHOC with a ribbon cutting ceremony, activities for the children, and culminate with a screening of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, a new release from Disney®.

Christie's CEO, Jack Kline, a Board member of the Lollipop Theater Network - a non-profit charity organization whose mission is to bring movies to in-patient, ill children who are unable to go to a regular movie theater - is a passionate supporter of this cause.

"Personally, it's a cause near and dear to my heart as well, given my involvement with LOLLIPOP, and I'm excited about providing the CHOC Children's movie theater with our top-notch equipment."

Lollipop Theater Network (LOLLIPOP) coordinates with studios to bring new release, current release, and past release movies to children too ill to travel to a theater on their own. Often, it is one of the children's final wishes to be able to see a certain movie, and that wish is granted through the efforts of Lollipop Theater Network.

"We are incredibly grateful to Christie for its role in CHOC's new movie theater, which will allow our patients to escape - a little - from the hospital routine and enjoy being kids. We can't wait to see our patients gather in our theater, enjoy popcorn and settle in to watch a new movie together," said Stephanie DeMello, child life manager, CHOC Children's.

The new theater will be a dedicated room where the patients can go to see these movies. With movie theater seating, a popcorn machine, velvet drapes, and custom projector, audio system and screen, the room will be a refuge from the standard routines of a hospital environment.

Highlighting the theater will be the Christie DHD555-GS projector, unveiled in June, 2014. This projector boasts 1-chip DLP® technology, renowned for its excellent image quality and reliability, proving roughly 20,000 hours of low-cost operation. The projector outputs a native, high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080, and is rated at 5,000 ANSI lumens of brightness.

midoctmidweek.jpgFox reports that Gone Girl added $2.35 million on Wednesday for a 28 percent drop from the same day last week, bringing its 13-day total to $87 million. The hit David Fincher-Ben Affleck adaptation of Gillian Flynn's popular novel is running 8 percent ahead of the pace of 2010's Shutter Island.

Universal's Dracula Untold posted $1.4 million yesterday, giving it $29.55 million in the bank through six days of release. The action-horror reimagining is pacing 23 percent ahead of last year's Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

The Judge grossed $1.23 million on Wednesday, giving the Robert Downey, Jr. pic a 6-day total of $17.8 million. The drama is pacing 22 percent ahead of This Is Where I Leave You.

Annabelle dropped 50 percent from last Wednesday to $0.9 million yesterday. That gives the horror prequel/spin-off $65.3 million through 13 days of release, 5 percent ahead of Insidious Chapter 2 at the same point.

Disney's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day grabbed $0.78 million yesterday. The family-driven adaptation has earned $23.9 million since opening last week, putting it 15 percent ahead of the pace of Muppets Most Wanted.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate's Addicted took in $0.36 million yesterday. The film's 6-day total from a modest 846 locations stands at $9 million.

gotg1.pngFollowing its record-setting debut last weekend in China, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy surpassed $700M yesterday, with $326.7M domestically and $378.4M internationally for a global total of $705.1M. This is the third Walt Disney Studios' release of 2014 to reach the $700M mark and the sixth in the last 18 months.

Guardians of the Galaxy is the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe film to pass $700M, after Marvel's The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It's the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to do so while also being the first in a series and without featuring major characters from previous Marvel films.

Released domestically on August 1, Guardians of the Galaxy marked Marvel's 10th consecutive #1 opening, setting an August record with $94.3M. It held the #1 spot for four of its first six weekends and ultimately became the biggest August release in industry history and the first film of the year to cross $300M at the domestic box office.

Internationally, Guardians of the Galaxy opened in China on October 10 with $29.8M, an October record for the territory and Disney's third biggest debut there, behind Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Top markets for Guardians of the Galaxy include the U.K. ($47.3M), China, ($43.4M), Russia ($37.5M), Australia ($24.4M), and Germany ($24M). The film opens in one remaining market, Italy, on October 22.

The film's American Music Awards-nominated soundtrack, Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1, was recently certified Gold and is Disney's second chart-topping soundtrack of 2014, hitting #1 on the Billboard 200 in its second and third weeks of release. It peaked at #1 on iTunes in 60 territories.

Director James Gunn will return to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2, due out July 28, 2017.
