jurassicworld.pngUniversal reports that Jurassic World added another $19.9 million on Wednesday, an expected 18 percent decline from Tuesday's gross. That gives the blockbuster smash sequel a domestic total of $278.4 million through just six days of release, representing the biggest six-day total in history (topping Marvel's The Avengers' $257.6 million six-day haul by 8 percent). Additionally, yesterday's gross was the fourth best non-opening Wednesday in history, trailing only the first Wednesday grosses of Transformers ($29.1 million, second day of release), The Amazing Spider-Man ($23.3 million, second day of release), and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($20.8 million, sixth day of release). In terms of non-holiday and non-opening Wednesday grosses, Jurassic World now holds that record as well. On the all-time domestic chart, the film leaped another ten spots to 69th place all-time (between The Hangover's $277.3 million and Meet the Fockers' $279.3 million).

In second place, Spy took in $1.8 million on Wednesday for a 35 percent week-to-week drop. The latest Melissa McCarthy-Paul Feig collaboration has tallied $62.2 million through 13 days of release.

San Andreas claimed third place yesterday with $1.17 million, down 50 percent from last Wednesday. The disaster flick's 20-day domestic haul is a strong $122.85 million.

Insidious Chapter 3 posted $0.93 million on Wednesday for a 44 percent decline from the same day last week. The horror sequel's 13-day tally is $40.4 million.

Filling out the top five, Pitch Perfect 2 grossed another $0.76 million yesterday, down just 19 percent from last week. The comedy sequel's 34-day haul is $173.44 million.

Jurassic World continued its record-breaking pace on Tuesday with a daily take of $24.34 million. The Chris Pratt led 3D blockbuster sequel from Universal and Legendary declined a slim 4 percent from Monday's performance. That represented an exceptional first Tuesday hold for an event film, especially when factoring in the competition the film faced from Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. Jurassic World generated the largest non-opening day Tuesday performance ever; as it topped the $20.87 million take of previous record holder 2008's The Dark Knight. Jurassic World claimed the third largest Tuesday gross ever when including opening day performances, behind only 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man ($35.02 million) and 2007's Transformers ($27.85 million).

Jurassic World surpassed the $250 million mark yesterday on its fifth day of release. That set a new record as previous record-holder Marvel's The Avengers took six days to pass the $250 million mark. Jurassic World has grossed $258.49 million in five days. That represents the largest five-day start of all-time, topping the $244.01 million five-day start of Marvel's The Avengers by $14.48 million and 6 percent. Given strong word of mouth and strong daily percentage holds thus far, no new direct competition for action fans and Father's Day on Sunday, Jurassic World looks to be in store for a terrific second weekend hold.

Fox's Spy held steady in a distant second with $2.11 million. The Melissa McCarthy led comedy increased a healthy 21.5 percent over Monday and decreased 44 percent from last Tuesday. Spy topped the $60 million mark yesterday and has grossed $60.40 million in twelve days. That places the film an underwhelming 21 percent behind the $76.61 million twelve-day take of 2013's Identity Thief and 6 percent ahead of the $56.999 million twelve-day gross of last year's Tammy.

Warner's San Andreas grossed $1.41 million to remain in third. The Dwayne Johnson led 3D disaster film was up 23 percent over Monday and down a sizable 54 percent from last Tuesday. San Andreas continues to exceed expectations with a strong 19-day take of $121.68 million. The film is running 18 percent ahead of the $103.21 million 19-day take of 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Focus' Insidious: Chapter 3 remained in fourth place with $1.08 million. The third installment of the low-budget horror franchise from Gramercy and Blumhouse Productions was up 8 percent over Monday and down 51 percent from last Tuesday. Insidious: Chapter 3 has grossed $39.45 million in twelve days, which is on the low end of pre-release expectations.

Pitch Perfect 2 rounded out the day's unchanged top five with $0.843 million. Universal's successful musical comedy sequel starring Anna Kendrick was up 16.5 percent over Monday and down a healthy 25 percent from last Tuesday. The 33-day total for Pitch Perfect 2 stands at a very strong $171.84 million.

"It's clear from these first year revenues and attendance numbers that the partnership has been a huge success, attracting audiences from all over Los Angeles and tourists alike to Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE to experience 4DX."

The 4DX technology from CJ 4DPlex enhances the on-screen visuals of action-packed blockbusters, stimulating all five senses through special effects such as motion, wind, fog, rain, lighting, vibrations and scents to enable a completely immersive event that transcends the traditional cinema experience.

"The first year of 4DX in the United States has proved to be a hit with American audiences," said Mark Shaw, CEO, CJ 4DPlex America. "We saw great success when we launched 4DX in Brazil, Columbia, Guatemala, Korea, Peru and Russia, and it's thrilling to see the success it's having in the influential US market."

Expected summer blockbuster, Terminator Genisys, is the next 4DX movie to come to Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14, playing July 1-9. Visit Fandango.com for ticket information.
