Disney will release Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D on May 20, 2011. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine) is taking over directorial duties on the lucrative property.

2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End snagged a domestic cume of $309.4 million. It's a safe bet that the added price of 3D tickets could help this latest installment top its predecessor. 2006's Dead Man's Chest is still the most successful domestic earner with $423.3 million.

Terry Gilliam is taking another crack at filming The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, and he's bringing Ewan McGregor with him. Robert Duvall is set to tackle the Quixote role, and McGregor will play a man who travels back in time and gets involved in adventures with the legendary character. Gilliam originally intended on shooting the project with Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort back in 2000, but it fell apart.

Gilliam last directed The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which managed $7.7 million domestically.

Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter behind The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses and this fall's Morning Glory, has snagged a seven-figure deal from Disney for a live-action Cinderella pitch.

The Mouse House had great luck this year with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, another new take on a classic story. That film has grossed $331.5 million domestically since opening on March 5. Alice hits DVD/Blu-ray on June 5.

Cameron Crowe will direct We Bought a Zoo for 20th Century Fox. The project comes from a memoir about a widowed father who buys a zoo and restores it with his children. No leading man is attached at this time. A December 23, 2011 release date is already set.

Crowe hasn't made a film since 2005's Elizabethtown, which received a critical lashing and grabbed only $26.8 million domestically.
