Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation took in $6.79 million on Monday to lead the daily box office with ease for a fourth consecutive day. The well received fifth installment of the Tom Cruise led action franchise fell 56 percent from Sunday. Rogue Nation passed the $60 million mark yesterday and has grossed $62.31 million in four days. The film is performing towards the higher end of expectations thus far and will hope to hold up well going forward thanks in part to strong critical reviews and strong early word of mouth. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is currently running 21.5 percent ahead of the $51.27 million four-day start of 2006's Mission: Impossible III.

Universal's Minions placed in second with $2.00 million. The 3D computer animated prequel from Illumination Entertainment was down just 47 percent from Sunday and down a very solid 35 percent from last Monday. Wide releases in general (and especially family fare) received an extra boost on Monday from the Civic Holiday in Canada. Minions has grossed an impressive $289.58 million in 25 days. That places the film 4 percent behind the $301.65 million 25-day take of 2013's Despicable Me 2.

Ant-Man followed closely behind in third with $1.89 million. The Paul Rudd led 3D superhero film from Disney and Marvel declined 53 percent from Sunday and a respectable 43 percent from last Monday. Ant-Man has clearly taken a hit from the arrival of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and will be facing further direct competition from Fox's Fantastic Four beginning on Friday. Ant-Man has grossed a solid $134.22 million in 18 days, which places it just 7 percent behind the $144.88 million 18-day take of 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger.

Warner's Vacation landed in fourth place with $1.84 million. The comedy franchise re-launch starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate fell 58 percent from Sunday, which represented the day's largest daily percentage decline among wide releases. Vacation has grossed a softer than expected $22.85 million through six days of release. The film is currently running an underwhelming 19 percent behind the $28.32 million six-day start of last year's Let's Be Cops.

Pixels rounded out Monday's top five with $1.64 million. The Adam Sandler led 3D action comedy from Sony was down 48 percent from Sunday and down 43 percent from last Monday. Pixels continues to perform significantly below expectations with a lackluster eleven-day take of $47.36 million. That places the film a disappointing 42 percent behind the $82.14 million eleven-day haul of 2013's Grown Ups 2.

Universal's Trainwreck claimed sixth place with $1.33 million. The critically acclaimed Amy Schumer led comedy declined 52 percent from Sunday and 38 percent from last Monday. Trainwreck surpassed the $80 million mark yesterday and has grossed a healthy $80.95 million in 18 days. The film is currently running an impressive 35 percent ahead of the $60.11 million 18-day gross of 2009's Julie & Julia.

Tuesday Morning Update: Straight Outta Compton has been one of the biggest non-sequel performers on Facebook for the year so far. As such, its 200k+ climb last week was hardly a surprise as it has now led all upcoming films in weekly like increases three separate times since its first trailer. With crossover audience-appeal not seen for its genre since 8 Mile it is ready to explode onto the scene. We are predicting a $37 million opening and a $100 million total for the film.

A new trailer for the upcoming crime biopic Black Mass dropped last week and gained the most buzz of any of the three released teasers/trailers on both Twitter and Facebook. Focusing almost exclusively on Johnny Depp's total transformation into Bulger both appearance and personaility-wise really did the trick this time out and allowed it to see a 100%+ gain, a tough feat for a film so close to release even if the numbers are relatively low.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that the fact that Fantastic Four was below Straight Outta Compton despite opening a week sooner wasn't at least a little worrying. While they were not critical darlings, the first two Fantastic Four films before this reboot were global successes and with some of Marvel's most recognizable stars as the subject matter I would have thought it would have been able to generate quite a bit more followers on Facebook. The comparison that comes to mind for this is the X-Men: First Class reboot which saw a modest $55 million opening weekend before greatly expanding on that for its second installment. We are predicting $47 million on opening weekend for the Four.

Suicide Squad continues to add followers after its very well received Comic Con trailer was released. Over 500k for a film that is a year away is impressive to say the least, especially considering that the Suicide Squad are hardly household names and apart from the Joker in the trailer most people would be un-aware of any of the characters. Not since Thor and Captain America both opened in 2011 have there been two more eagerly anticipated non-sequel superhero films.

Faith-based film War Room rounded out the top 5 with another impressive showing, rising 30k to 382,804 likes. The genre really has taken off in recent years and with this coming from the same people behind hits such as Courageous and Fireproof it has excellent pedigree.

This week sees an astonishing 13 new films enter Chinese cinemas, but with only 2 or 3 capable of stealing showtimes away from Monster Hunt, the record-breaking blockbuster looks to continue its run at the top of the Chinese box office for a fourth straight weekend. (At writing, Monster Hunt has grossed $302M).

Monster Hunt's biggest competitor this week according to EntGroup's EFMT Index is To The Fore (破风), a sports drama from Hong Kong director Dante Lam set in the cutthroat world of professional road cycling. Lam teams up again with actor Eddie Peng; they last worked together on 2013's mixed martial arts drama Unbeatable which grossed $19 million on the Mainland. The film also stars Korean pop-star Choi Siwon and Chinese-Canadian actor Shawn Dou who along with Peng could attract lots of young female moviegoers. Even though To The Fore contains sports elements that would otherwise make it a rather niche film, the cutthroat drama and backstabbing place it more in line with films young Chinese audiences like to watch. Therefore, we see To The Fore exceeding Unbeatable's box office performance, perhaps reaching as much as $50 million by the end of its run. To The Fore is also being released in select US and Canadian cities on Saturday through Magnum Films.

Aimed at a similar demographic, Time To Love (新步步惊心) is adapted from a popular 2011 Hunan television series. Here's the premise: a young modern woman fed up with her white collar job is accidentally sent back in time and becomes a Qing Dynasty Princess. A similarly-themed TV show-turned film called The Palace (宫锁城乡) was released in 2013 and grossed only $9 million. Despite rabid fans of the TV show showing up on opening day, we expect word of mouth to hurt this ridiculous movie and it will disappear overnight with just $5 million.

Local animation has been in the spotlight this summer with Monkey King: Hero Is Back smashing records left and right. Two new Chinese animated films enter cinemas this weekend trying to steal some of Monkey's attention, but we anticipate the King will reign supreme for another frame. Kwai Boo: Crazy Space Adventure (桂宝之爆笑闯宇宙) is a big screen adaptation of China's popular Crazy Kwai Boo animated TV series - think a Chinese Jimmy Neutron. 20th Century Fox has invested an undisclosed sum into Kwai Boo: Crazy Space Adventure, marking the first ever investment by a Hollywood player in Chinese animation. Mr. Black - Green Star (黑猫警长之翡翠之星) adapted from a popular ‘80s animation about a black cat riding around on his motorcycle stopping bad guys, would like to capitalize on the nostalgia that catapulted Stand By Me Doraemon to an impressive $88 million in May, but we don't see it getting anywhere near that.

The other 9 (!!) films opening this weekend are The Snow Queen (Russia), Love in the Office (一路向前), Sword of Hope (轩辕剑传奇), Legend of Didao (小西天狄道传奇), The Spirit of the Swords (情剑), Love at First (爱之初体验), The Best Love (我爸比我小四岁), Where'd The Time Go (时间都去哪了), and Red Mansion (红髅).
