LOS ANGELES -- Matthew Libatique, ASC (Black Swan), Wally Pfister, ASC (Inception), Danny Cohen, BSC (The King's Speech), Jeff Cronenweth, ASC (The Social Network), and Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC (True Grit) have been nominated in the feature film category of the 25th Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Outstanding Achievement Awards.

The winner will be announced at the ASC Awards celebration at the Hollywood and Highland Grand Ballroom on February 13.

"These five people have set the standard for today's cinematography," says Awards Committee Chairman Richard Crudo. "Although they were nominated for a variety of films, they share the common denominator of extraordinary talent and good taste. Just their mere presence on set would elevate any production."

This is the ninth nomination for Deakins in the ASC feature film competition. He earned top honors for The Shawshank Redemption (1995) and The Man Who Wasn't There (2002), and other nominations for Fargo (1997), Kundun (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2001), No Country for Old Men (2008), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2008), Revolutionary Road (2009) and The Reader (2009). In addition to his nomination for True Grit, Deakins will also be honored as the recipient of the ASC's 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is the third nomination for Pfister who was previously recognized for Batman Begins (2006) and The Dark Knight (2009).

Cohen, Cronenweth and Libatique are all first-time nominees.

"The artistically diverse approaches these talented cinematographers employed are a glimpse at what visionaries with a camera can accomplish," says ASC President Michael Goi. "They are visual storytellers of the highest caliber."

Andy Serkis was signed to reprise his role as Gollum in the upcoming adaptation of The Hobbit, to be mounted by Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson. Serkis joins actor Martin Freeman, who will play a younger version of the Rings' films' character Bilbo Baggins, as well as Elijah Wood and Cate Blanchett, who will similarly reprise their roles from the original trilogy.

Serkis' turn as the tormented creature in the original trilogy was one of the first major film characters to be created entirely via performance capture, and James Cameron credited the successful creation of Gollum as the evidence he needed to get his own performance-capture-based film, Avatar, off the ground. Meanwhile, since the Rings films, Serkis provided the performance-capture bases for Jackson's King Kong, and played a variety of live-action characters in films such as 13 Going On 30 and The Prestige. But his return to the world of The Lord of the Rings signals Jackson's intention to at least try and recreate the magic that made the original films such a critical and commercial success.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - It was another successful fundraising event for Malco Theatres, with the wrap up of the annual Wrapped with Love campaign, which benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

This program, in its twelfth year, ran from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day at all 30 Malco Theatre locations inTennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Mississippi. This year over 73,000 bows were sold during the 4-week holiday campaign.

The bows were hand-made from actual film and sold by employees for $1.00 each. The materials and volunteer production hours for the bows were donated, so there was no cost to Malco Theatres; the true beneficiary was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Since 1999, Malco Theatres has raised over $390,000 for St. Jude thru the annual Kids Summer Film Fest and Wrapped with Love campaigns.

A formal check presentation at the hospital is being planned for early spring.

Malco Theatres is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee and is fourth-generation family-owned and operated. Malco operates over 300 screens at 30 locations in 5 states across the mid-south.
