RUSSIA: 'Oblivion' $9.3M Opening Weekend, 'Evil Dead' Shows Promise

Oblivion had a highly successful opening in Russia last weekend with $9.3 million and a $10,654 per-screen average. It is Tom Cruise's best opening weekend in Russia and represents the best opening for a 2D film this year. Evil Dead proved to have good staying power in its second weekend, grossing $1.4 million in 420 screens for a $3,423 average. In comparison, The Host shares the same screen count in its third week and just managed to gross $181,575. Jurassic Park 3D continues to be a winner in Russia, staying in the top ten with a $2.4 million cume. Russia also represents a good market for Danny Boyle's Trance, already grossing $2.5 million in the country over two weekends. The Croods is the highest grossing film currently in release with $26.5 million over five weekends.
