'Iron Man 3' Eyes $40M in Russia
on May 15, 2013
Iron Man 3 scored another big weekend in Russia to lead the box office for the second consecutive week. The superhero film grossed just under $10 million over the weekend to bring its Russian total to $38.3 million. Iron Man's performance hasn't distracted the strong run of domestic hockey biopic Legend No. 17, which grossed another $2.6 million in its fourth week to reach a $27.4 million total. The Russian film is on track to outgross The Croods; the animated film has been a success in its own right, grossing a total of $28.2 million after nine weeks in the Russian market.
Spring Breakers disappointed in its opening weekend, averaging $1,810 across 402 screens. Pain & Gain stumbled in its third week, falling 72% and slowing down its successful run after grossing a $7.1 million cume. Oblivion has grossed $19 million in Russia despite a steep fall in recent weeks. The Tom Cruise film should be able to reach the $20 million mark before the end of its run, making Russia one of the few remaining territories where Cruise's star-power still retains its luster.
