'Stalingrad' is Named Russia's Academy Award Submission
on September 21, 2013
Stalingrad has been selected as Russia's official entry to the Academy Awards. The 3D World War 2 film is the first film produced in the IMAX format to not have been produced in the United States.
Stalingrad will hit screens in Russia on October 10. The historical drama faced tough competition from domestic box office hit and crowd-favorite Legend No. 17, a hockey biopic that dominated the box office charts earlier this year. Stalingrad received accolades after its first public screening, held on September 19 in St. Petersburg, where it played to a number of industry professionals as part of the KinoExpo trade show.
