South Korea is expected to overtake Russia as early as next weekend, however, as the natural disaster flick took a commanding $5.2 million debut in the new market. Into the Storm has grossed $47.7 million overseas and $89.6 million worldwide.
Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Die For took the #1 spot in its Russian premiere, grossing $4.7 million from 1,909 screens. The Russian bow nearly matched the film's disappointing North American opening, finishing only $2 million below in nearly 1,000 less screens than its North American debut.
The Expendables 3 is having trouble holding on after last week's soft opening in Russia. The action sequel finished its sophomore frame on the market with a $1.2 million sixth place finish from 1,012 dates. The film's 11-day total in Russia stands at $6.3 million.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles keeps the top spot in Russia after posting a $5.1 million weekend in its second frame in the market, a 55% drop from last weekend’s premiere. The weekend debut of The Expendables 3 was unable to unseat the reigning box office champion as the Turtles continued their successful run in Russia. The film has grossed a total of $20.9 million in Russia.
