Into the Storm followed up last weekend’s Russian debut with a $1.35 million hold from 1,033 screens. The natural disaster flick has now grossed a total of $5.2 million in Russia, outgrossing the market totals for comparables titles like The Impossible by 257%, Flight and Paranormal Activity by 100%, The Happening by 96%, Unstoppable by 86%, and Cloverfield by 35%.
Hercules carried in another $3.5 million from 962 locations in its second weekend in Russia. The film has now grossed a total of $18.8 million in Russia.
Guardians of the Galaxy took a $13 million debut in Russia, the largest haul for any of the film’s overseas territories in its day-and-date debut. Guardians finished its first weekend at the box office with a $160.4 million global cume following a stellar $94 million bow from North America.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes grossed $956k from 1,561 screens in its third weekend in Russia, reaching a $20.1 million cume in the market. The film has already grossed twice as much as its predecessor in Russia.
Hercules dominated the Russian box office with a strong $12 million debbut from 930 locations. The film performed well in IMAX, with Russia contributing $1 million from 35 screens, a $30k per-screen average in the format and accounting for half of the cumulative $2 million IMAX gross outside of North America. The stellar bow is 23% above star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's G.I. Joe: Retaliation in the same market and the biggest opening weekend for a The Rock vehicle of all time in Russia.
