X-Men: Days of Future Past is slowing down its run in Russia. The super-hero sequel earned $567k in its latest tally and reached a $21.3 million cume in the market.
Maleficent reached a $24.1 million cume at the end of its second weekend in Russia. The Disney film got off to a very strong start with last weekend's $11.5 million debut. New opener Edge of Tomorrow has affected the film in its first hold, however, as it is expected to finish the weekend in second place behind the new Tom Cruise film. Russia is currently the second biggest overseas market for Maleficent, trailing only Mexico's $30 million tally.
Edge of Tomorrow recorded the biggest opening day of all time for a Tom Cruise movie in Russia. The sci-fi flick took in $1.4 million in its Russian debut, beating the last installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise by 67 percent. Edge of Tomorrow ranked in first place in the market at over 1,600 screens.
Maleficent took a commanding lead at the Russian box office with a blockbuster $11.5 million debut. It is the biggest live-action debut for Angelina Jolie in the market, going as far as outgrossing the lifetime run of Salt in Russia. Maleficent claimed the top spot despite facing strong competition from the second weekend of X-Men: Days of Future Past and the debut of Neighbors.
