Pompeii blasted through RoboCop to become the top grossing film in Russia
The disaster flick took a #1 debut from the marker after earning $5.8 million from 1,375 screens.
RoboCop enjoyed a fantastic start at the Brazilian box office with a #1 opening after facing off against the release of Pompeii. The sci-fi action flick is directed by celebrated Brazilian director Jose Padilha.
Padilha’s RoboCop reboot scored a market-leading $3.46 million opening weekend across 500 screens.
Pompeii disappointed in Brazil, taking a $1.47 million bow from 351 screens, a soft start despite a #2 finish at the box office.
RoboCop added $1.6 million to its Russian during its first hold in the market.
The film played in 1,153 screens and suffered a 72% slide from its successful opening weekend.
RoboCop has grossed a total of $8.4 million after its first two frames in Russia.
VIY finished its fourth weekend in Russia at the #7 spot with a $724k take from 508 dates.
The 25-day total for the film is $33,723,309, eclipsing Despicable Me 2 as Universal’s most successful release of all time in Russia.
Monuments Men opened in over 1,000 screens Russia for a $1.24 million debut. The George Clooney film opened in 29 new markets over the weekend, including Russia, to reach a $25.9 overseas total.
