'Jobs' Launches with $3.3M Debut, Biggest Opening for American Biopic in Russia on September 23, 2013

jobsstill.jpgA $3.3 million debut from Jobs launched the film to the top of the box office in Russia, posting the biggest opening of all time for an American biopic in the market. The Jobs debut grossed twice as much as The Social Network premiere. Riddick held on with a $2.8 million take from 650 locations in its second weekend. The cumulative total for Riddick is a very strong $9.8 million. 

 

We're the Millers became the highest R-rated comedy export in Russia, reaching a $17.3 million cume over its sixth weekend in Russia. Despicable Me 2 is also earning in its sixth weekend in Russia. The animated sequel took in $630 from 399 dates to reach a $33.7 million cume.

'Stalingrad' is Named Russia's Academy Award Submission on September 21, 2013

Stalingrad has been selected as Russia's official entry to the Academy Awards. The 3D World War 2 film is the first film produced in the IMAX format to not have been produced in the United States.

 

Stalingrad will hit screens in Russia on October 10. The historical drama faced tough competition from domestic box office hit and crowd-favorite Legend No. 17, a hockey biopic that dominated the box office charts earlier this year. Stalingrad received accolades after its first public screening, held on September 19 in St. Petersburg, where it played to a number of industry professionals as part of the KinoExpo trade show. 'Riddick' Dethrones '2 Guns' for #1 with $4.3M Debut on September 16, 2013

 

riddickfbtwitterreportcard.jpgRiddick stole the top spot at the Russian box office from 2 Guns with a $4.3 million bow from 926 screens. The sci-fi action flick will hope to add to its impressive debut in the coming weeks. 

 

Despicable Me 2 finished last weekend in third place with a $1 million take from 449 locations. The Minions have earned $33 million in the market after 32 days in release. Despicable Me 2 is Universal's highest-grossing film of all time in Russia.

'Grown Ups 2' Surpasses Lifetime Gross of Original in Russia on September 10, 2013

Grown Ups 2 surpassed the lifetime total of the original in Russia after ten days in release. A $1.7 million hold pushed the film's total gross in the market to $7.2 million, a 23% improvement above the final tally from its predecessor.

 

Despicable Me 2 posted a strong hold in its fourth weekend in Russia, posting a $1.4 million tally from 968 locations for a $31.4 million cume after 25 days in release. Despicable Me 2 is the second highest grossing release of all time for Universal behind this summer's Fast & Furious 6.

 

Kick-Ass 2 had a disappointing opening, earning $1 million from 672 screens. Other cumulative totals in the market following the weekend include $4.2 million for Planes, $10 million for The Conjuring, $11.6 million for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, $15.7 million for We're the Millers, and $20.9 million for Monsters University
