The film performed well in IMAX, with Russia contributing $1 million from 35 screens, a $30k per-screen average in the format and accounting for half of the cumulative $2 million IMAX gross outside of North America. The stellar bow is 23% above star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's G.I. Joe: Retaliation in the same market and the biggest opening weekend for a The Rock vehicle of all time in Russia.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes relinquished the top spot in Russia to Hercules over the weekend but still put up a fight with a $3.3 million haul from 1,925 screens in its second weekend. The film has already grossed $17.5 million in Russia.
Sex Tape opened in third place in Russia after scoring a $2.6 million debut from 961 screens in the market. The opening haul represents a 64% improvement over the opening weekend of Neighbors and a 3% lead over the debut of The Other Woman in the same market.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opened in Russia to a strong $9.8 million from 2,265 screens. The result is 135% higher than the opening weekend of its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The weekend haul puts the Apes reboot sequel as the top film in the market.
Step Up All In took a bold debut in Russia, where it grossed $3.1 million from 1,000 sites to finish the weekend in second place. The opening frame is 23% ahead of the previous entry in the franchise, Step Up Revolution.
